Export to PDF dialog box

Use the Export to PDF dialog box to specify your requirements for the exported .pdf file you want to create. You can export to a two-dimensional or three-dimensional .pdf file.

PDF files allow you to distribute your drawing to others for viewing in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®, which is free software that users can download. PDF files can also be viewed, reviewed, and edited in Adobe® Acrobat.

This dialog box displays when you use Export and choose PDF as the desired export file type.

DIALOG BOX OPTIONS

Embedded Fonts Click to include fonts within the .pdf file, otherwise system fonts are used. If selected, TrueType fonts are embedded within the exported .pdf file, which can cause very large file sizes in some cases.

Optimized Click to reduce the size of the output .pdf file by removing unused parts of the fonts (for example, characters that are never used in the text). Note that this restricts editing abilities.

TrueType as Geometry Click to export TrueType font text as geometry instead of text.

SHX Text as Geometry Click to export SHX font text as geometry instead of text.

Make Text Searchable Click to allow searching of text in the output .pdf file (available only if TrueType and/or SHX text is exported as geometry).

Enable Simple Geometry Optimization Click to optimize geometry processing, for example, save arcs as Bezier curves instead of an enumeration of lines, save separated segments with equal ends and equal attributes as one polyline, and save rectangles as rectangles instead of four lines.

Zoom to Extents Mode Click to export the drawing in Zoom to Extents mode. If enabled, the layout geometry will be zoomed to the paper size, otherwise layout settings will be applied.

Exact Extents Click to export the drawing with the bounding box. This option is available only if you enable zoom to extents.

Use Hidden Line Removal Algorithm Click to use software vector hidden-line removal (HLR) to delete hidden lines during the export process for corresponding viewports.

Enable Layer Support (pdf v1.6) Click to export layers so you can work with layers in the .pdf file.

Export Off Layers Too Click to include layers that are turned off in the .pdf file. This option is available only if you enable layer support.

3D PDF Export Click to create a three-dimensional .pdf file. If unmarked, a two-dimensional .pdf file is created. This option is available only if you enable layer support.

Export Hyperlinks Click to include links with hyperlinked text.

Linearize PDF (Web PDF) Click to allow the exported .pdf file to be processed incrementally. This allows for quick downloading, navigation, font loading, and response to user actions, which is especially helpful when working with large .pdf files on the Internet.

Paper Width Enter the width, in metric or imperial units, of the paper for the layouts you are exporting. This will be the width of the page in the .pdf file.

Paper Height Enter the height, in metric or imperial units, of the paper for the layouts you are exporting. This will be the height of the page in the .pdf file.

Unit Types Choose the units for the exported .pdf file: inches or millimeters.

Custom Properties Click to open the Custom PDF Export Properties dialog box and set additional properties such as hatch resolution, image resolution, compression, and more.

Landscape or Portrait Select the orientation of the drawing.

Layouts to Export Choose whether to export only the current, active layout, or all layouts in the drawing.

Encoded (Small Size) Click to use compression to reduce the file size of the exported .pdf file.

ASCIIHEX Encoded (x2 Size) Click to write data in hexadecimal format, allowing the output .pdf file to be explored with hex-editors. Note that turning on this option doubles the size of the output .pdf file.

Ignore Invisible Viewport Borders Click to include all content inside a viewport that has invisible borders. If a viewport border is invisible, the viewport's content is not cropped.

Color Policy Determines the color palette used when exporting the .pdf file. Select one of the following:

  • As Is — Exports the drawing with its native color palette (as is).
  • Monochrome — Exports the drawing to a monochrome .pdf file.
  • Grayscale — Exports the drawing to a grayscale .pdf file. Native colors are converted into grayscale.

Export Solid Hatches Using Select how to export solid hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports solid hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution specified for the export process in the Custom PDF Export Properties dialog box.
  • Vectorizer — Divides solid hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.
  • PDF Paths — (Recommended) Exports only the outer loop of solid hatches and then fills the loops with the appropriate color. Creates a smaller .pdf file size than other methods and avoids distortion of graphical elements.

Export Gradient Hatches Using Select how to export gradient hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports gradient hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution specified for the export process in the Custom PDF Export Properties dialog box.
  • Vectorizer — Divides gradient hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.

Export Other Hatches Using Select how to export other hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports other hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution specified for the export process in the Custom PDF Export Properties dialog box.
  • Vectorizer — Divides other hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.

Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, and Producer Enter information about the drawing if you want to save the information as properties for the .pdf file.
