Attribute Definition (command line version): ATTDEF

Creates an Attribute Definition, which is an entity consisting of a name, prompt for information, display characteristics, and default text. Use an attribute definition for text that you want to associate with a block definition.

Enter an option to change: Invisible/Constant/Verify/Preset/Lock position/Annotative/Multiple lines <PROceed>: To create an Attribute Definition, press Enter. To switch the attribute modes, choose Invisible, Constant, Verify, Preset, Lock position, Annotative, or Multiple line. When you choose a mode, the setting switches between Y(es) and N(o).

To specify an attribute mode

To specify a fixed value when you insert a block, choose Y for Fixed.

To specify that the attribute values are not displayed when you insert the block, choose Y for Invisible. (You can display Hidden attributes later using a different command.)

To specify that the attribute value is constant and not requested when you later insert a block containing the attribute, choose Y for Constant. (You can edit the attribute after the block is inserted.)

To specify that you want to be prompted for verification that the attribute value is correct when you insert a block, choose Y for Verify.

To specify that you want the attribute set to its default value when you insert a block containing a preset attribute, choose Y for Preset.

To specify that you want the attribute position locked in the block, choose Y for Locked.

To specify that you want the attribute to be annotative, choose Y for Annotative.

To specify that you want the attribute to have the ability to have multiple lines of text, choose Y for Multiple lines.

To define an attribute

Choose PROceed.

Name of attribute: Enter a name for the attribute. You can enter alphabetic and numeric characters, but do not enter spaces.

Prompt: Enter a prompt, using text and spaces. This prompt appears when you insert the attribute into the drawing, allowing you to enter text in the drawing. This prompt option does not appear when you choose Y for Fixed.

Default Text: Enter the text that you want associated with the attribute. This text appears when you insert a block containing this attribute.

Text: Style · Align · Fit · Center · Middle · Right · Justify · <Start point>: To start typing text, specify the start point for the text. To specify the text style or alignment, choose Style, Align, Fit, Center, Middle, Right, or Justify.

Height of text <value>: To accept the current setting, press Enter. To change the text height, enter a new value or specify a point.

Rotation angle of text <0º>: To accept the current setting, press Enter. To change the angle, enter the rotation angle of the text, or specify a point.


NOTE After you have finished defining an attribute, you see its name on the screen. To attach the attribute to a block, use the Create Block command. Then insert the block and the attribute, using the Block command, at which point the program prompts you to enter text for the attribute.
